Create & Sustain Healthy Families

In 2024, HGM was given a chance to rent a location that would open countless opportunities for the women and children of the ministry.

This new building has now become home to our Livelihood Training Center where we aim at equipping both the mothers and children with a variety of skills for building a self-sustaining strengthened community.
Under our Artisan program, our focus is to allow the women to learn and develop a specific skill set. These skill sets will empower the women to become more independent as they seek to provide for their families.
Such skills currently available under our Artisan program include:
  • Traditional weaving (Baskets, mats)
  • Tailoring
  • Baking
  • Agriculture
  • Hair Dressing
  • Soap Making
  • Re-usable sanitary pad making
  • More to come!
These programs are all made possible through donations from people like you. Donate now to contribute to the continuing of these educational programs. You can also support the women in our program by visiting our Shop.

HGM Weaving Program

Weaving is a traditional African craft that has been passed down through the generations.

Naturally Sustainable Materials – Locally Sourced

We use harvested local materials like raffia, elephant grass and banana fiber when weaving our handmade pieces, and every color you see is drawn from natural dyes.

Weaving

The HGM Artisan ladies work as a group, and sometimes weave at home, where they can stay with their children.
To create shape, artisans tightly wind fibers and secure them with tiny stitches, gradually generating shapes and patterns as they work.
The piece takes form, eventually reaching its final shape, handmade with care and detail.
The completed basket is a labor of love – the average basket can take one full day to create. Each piece, when completed, is more than just a basket – its representative of the women working to provide for their families through the workmanship of their hands.
Unfortunately, there is a very small market for baskets sales within Uganda as most of the population is within the poverty level. As a result, we have been working hard to create a market here in the states where we can sell the baskets for the ladies. All proceeds from basket sales are returned directly to the weaving program so that they may continue to work and provide for the families.
